Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a nationally recognised unit of competency that provides you with the critical knowledge and hands-on skills to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in the workplace, community, or at home. This course focuses on teaching you how to identify life-threatening situations quickly and use CPR techniques to sustain life until professional medical help arrives.
 
Accredited Units of Competency
On successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
 
Prerequisites
  • Nil
  • Note: You must have the physical ability to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin placed on the floor.

How the Training Works
Training Delivery
  • Delivered face-to-face by a qualified trainer at one of our approved training facilities or at your workplace.
  • Training delivery includes theory and practical assessments.
  • Learn through interactive presentations, trainer demonstrations, and realistic hands-on practice with manikins, AED, and first aid equipment.
 
Practical Activities Include
  • Performing CPR on adult, child, and infant manikins.
  • Operating an AED.
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty, including placing them in the recovery position.
  • Coordinating with others during an emergency scenario.
 
Assessment
You’ll complete:
  • Knowledge assessment (multiple choice theory questions).
  • A practical assessment to demonstrate CPR and AED use to the standard set by ARC guidelines.

Entry Requirements
To fully participate and stay safe during practical activities, you should meet the following:
General Requirements
  • Proof of identity must be supplied by you on the day of training.
  • You must be at least 14 years of age to participate in the training
  • Students under 18 years of age must supply parental consent (unless you are linked to an employer)
  • You need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you do not have one, you can apply for it for free at www.usi.gov.au
 
Language, Literacy, Numeracy & Digital (LLND)
You should be able to:
  • Read and follow simple written instructions and safety procedures (basic reading and writing at Year 10 level).
  • Follow verbal instructions from your trainer.
  • Use a digital device (tablet/smartphone/laptop) for assessments
 
Physical Requirements
You need to:
  • Be physically able to perform CPR on the floor for at least two minutes.
  • Be able to kneel, bend, and perform compressions and breaths effectively.
  • Be physically able to move quickly and safely to perform a rescue.
  • Use rescue equipment without assistance.
